
A total of 7,415 blood units were collected from November 13th to December 3rd, 2016, during the Dubai Health Authority’s (DHA) Dami Le Watani (My blood, for my country) blood donation campaign.
DHA honoured its partners who contributed to the success of the campaign, which was launched in 2012, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, during a ceremony held on Monday.
Of the total 7,415 units of blood that were collected during the campaign, 4,223 units were collected through DHA and 3,192 units through the Health Authority Abu Dhabi (HAAD).
Humaid Al Qatami, Chairman of the Board and Director General of DHA, thanked the partners who not only contributed to the success of the campaign but also helped save the lives of those in dire need of blood.
Al Qatami also commended the volunteers whose time and effort contributed to the success of the campaign.
He added that due to the authority’s commitment to those in need of blood it has ensured that the Dubai Blood Donation Centre is equipped with the best blood drawing and storing equipment, and staff.
He commended the partners, Dubai Police, Emarat Al Youm newspaper, Global Village, and Al Ameen Service, as well as all the sponsors and volunteers who contributed to the success of the campaign.
Dr. Mai Raouf, Director of the Dubai Blood Donation Centre, said that 40 percent of the 7,415 blood units were from first-time donors, which was one of the campaigns goals.
