Dubai Central Laboratory (DCL) of Dubai Municipality has announced new services, for all valued clients worldwide, in Microbiological Testing of Cosmetics and Personal Care Products and the Chemical Testing of Finger Paints. This is a part of DCL's continuous efforts to provide the best services for its customers, especially in the area of testing and analysis of consumer goods in order to protect consumers from sub-standard products which are harmful to public health and safety and the national economy. Eng. Hawa Abdulla Bastaki, Director of DCL said that the microbiological testing is a key aspect of cosmetics and personal care products safety. Microorganisms in cosmetics may cause spoilage or chemical change in the product and can possibly harm consumers. Cosmetics do not need to be sterile, but their preservative system must be able to take care of harmful microbial contamination. For the manufacturer of cosmetic and personal care products, it is important to ensure that their products are free from harmful microorganisms and are safe for consumer use in order to meet local and international directives. Eng. Amin Ahmad Mohammed Amin, Head of Consumer Products Laboratory Section said that Finger Paints may contain certain impurities, preservatives, toxic metals and other attributes which may have harmful effects. Now, DCL's Finger Paints tests include test for Formaldehyde, Parabens, Benzoic acid, pH and toxic metals.
