The cattle breeders who suffered losses following the disease of foot-and-mouth will be compensated even those who haven’t taken out an insurance policy, said Saturday in Algiers Secretary General of Agriculture and Rural Development Ministry Fodhil Ferroukhi.
The cattle breeder, whose livestock was contaminated with this viral disease which affects cattle, will benefit from 100% compensation. 80% of the real market price is granted by the ministry and 20% after slaughtering and the sale of the meat.
According to Ferroukhi , who was speaking at a press conference, the National Agricultural Mutual Fund (CNMA) suggests several products as part of the insurance coverage to help the farmers avoid losses caused by natural disasters and diseases.
He lamented the absence of an insurance culture among the farmers despite the availability of several products, underlining that the Agriculture Ministry works to develop this sector by raising the farmers’ awareness and the implementation of modern economic mechanisms.
