The Gulf Unified Fourth Week’s Ceremony events kicked off this morning, where they were organized by Ministry of Health, under the patronage of Minister of Health, Dr. Sadiq Bin Abdul Kareem Al-Shehabi. This was in presence of the President of Arabian Gulf University, Dr. Khalid Al Ouhili, Assistant Undersecretary for Primary Care and Public Health Dr Mariam Al-Jalahma and a number of senior officials at Ministry of Health at Princess Jawhara’s Center in Salmaniya’s area. Marking the occasion, Dr. Sadiq delivered a speech where he highlighted that the celebration was the most prominent outcomes of the cooperation between the GCC states during the past three years on the Health level. He also stressed the need to continue such cooperation and communication between the Health leaderships in the GCC states to meet the challenges confronting the health services in general, and the oral and dental health in particular. Dr. Sadiq stressed the activation of decision No. (4) issued by the GCC Ministers of Health in the 65th conference held in Geneva 2008, and also item No.(2) related to the Unified Gulf Week to promote the oral and dental health. Dr. Sadiq highlighted that the oral and dental health services at Ministry of Health in Kingdom of Bahrain have been and still providing the best specialized and general services in the oral and dental area, and provides the preventive services and programmes reinforcing the oral and dental health by scientifically and academically qualified medical cadres. This is done through 92 dental clinics during morning time, and 45 dental clinics during evening time, in addition to dental clinics that work during the week end, and official holidays. Dr. Sadiq stressed the concern of Ministry of Health in Bahrain with the oral and dental health, which is considered a commitment to the directives of the wise leadership to have keenness to provide all forms of health care to citizens and residents on this good land. For her part, the Head of the oral and dental services at Ministry of Health, member of the Gulf Committee for the oral and dental health said that the theme “Teeth are Health and Beauty,” was chosen from 20 themes and for five years to come by the members of the Gulf Committee for the oral and dental Health. She also highlighted that the dental health is one of the keys for enjoying healthy body, and more bright faces. The Head of the oral and dental services at Ministry of Health also said that there are many strategies and plans that will be achieved in the next years, in accordance with the aims and approach of the Ministry of Health, including the strategy of promoting the oral and dental health of kids since birth till they are 18 yrs. There is also a strategy of developing the specialized services for oral and dental health, the strategy of improving the oral and dental health services for elderly, and the strategy of improving the dental services for emergency cases at primary care (under study). Later, Minister of Health inaugurated the start of the ceremony’s events.
