
Health Minister Adel Adawy on Sunday hailed the Egyptian- Indian relations especially in the medicine domain .
He made the remarks on the sidelines of the inauguration of a factory of Indian Healthcare Pharmaceuticals in Sadat City, Menoufia, on Sunday.
He urged the Indian side to produce drugs for treating tumors due to the shortage in anti-tumor medicines in the Egyptian market.
He described the factory as being a great step towards producing drugs in Egypt.
The plant will operate eight lines for the production of a local version of Solvadi drug for the treatment of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection under a license of the US Gilead Sciences company.
He noted that the drug will be produce locally and according to the US quality standards.
The government is taking great strides towards combating adulterated drugs and confiscating unlicensed medicines.
For his part, board chairman of the Indian company told MENA that the factory aims to provide drugs for about one million Egyptians annually.
