
Health Undersecretary Dr. Khaled Al-Sehlawi held talks on Sunday with a visiting delegation of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on safe applications of the nuclear energy in such areas as medicine. Dr. Al-Sehlawi said in a statement the discussions dealt with mutual cooperation, adding that the IAEA delegation briefed the Kuwaiti side about the agency initiatives and researches in nuclear renewable energy sector. Bilateral consultations during the meeting covered issues of joint concern related to nuclear medicine, radioactive therapy, preventive medicine, healthy nutrition and management of protection from radiation. The IAEA delegation, due to stay in the country till December 10, will visit Kuwait Cancer Control Center and Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Molecular Imaging Center. The visitors were apprised of latest installments at these advanced medical facilities, as prelude to establishing strategic cooperation between the IAEA and Kuwait, in line with the State development strategy. The IAEA delegation includes Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation Dr. Kwaku Aning and Dr. Ali Boussaha, Director for the Asia and the Pacific Division in the same department.
