
A total of 1,121 people died of infectious diseases on the Chinese mainland in January, the National Health and Family Planning Commission said.
A total of 482,019 cases were reported last month, according to the commission.
More than 246,000 cases were classified as Class B infectious diseases under China's Law on the Prevention and Treatment of Infectious Diseases, resulting in 1,108 deaths. Hepatitis, tuberculosis, syphilis, dysentery and gonorrhoea accounted for 95% of the cases in this category.
Class C diseases were responsible for 235,280 cases, including 13deaths. Foot and mouth disease, infectious diarrhea, and influenza were the most prevalent in this category, accounting for 92% of cases, China's News Agency (Xinhua) reported.
