Iran's Minister of Interior Mostafa Mohammad Najjar announced here on Monday that the Islamic Republic of Iran plays a pivotal role in global fight against narcotic drugs. Talking to IRNA, Mohammad Najjar stressed that Iran confiscated over 500 tons of illicit drugs in 2011. Quoting reports by the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), he said the Islamic Republic enjoys the highest amount of drugs haul in the world. The Iranian minister arrived here on Monday to attend the 55th Session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) to open today. He is to elaborate on the Islamic Republic's efforts to fight drug smuggling and meet his counterparts attending the event.
