Israel treats injured teen from Gaza

A Palestinian teenager from Gaza who suffered serious injuries incurred in an Israeli airstrike is being treated in Israel, officials said. The 15 year-old was admitted to the Kaplan Medical Center in Rehovot Wednesday, suffering severe burns, shrapnel injuries and a lacerated liver, Ynetnews.com reported Thursday. The youth was reportedly hurt during an Israeli airstrike on a rocket launching pad in Jabalya in northern Gaza, the Web site said. "The boy was admitted after receiving initial care in [the] Gaza Strip. He underwent abdominal surgery and was transferred here on respiratory support," said Dr. Eli Shapiro, deputy-director of the hospital's Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. "While assessing the trauma, we discovered he was suffering from other injuries as well, which we treated in the Trauma Room. He is sedated and on respiratory support, but his condition is stable," he said. "The doctors and nurses here saved his life. They are treating my son with the utmost dignity and care and I'm grateful for that," the boy's father said. Israeli sources told the Web site the boy was injured near a rocket launching site while his father said he was walking with other teenagers when a missile fired from a drone hit them.
