Italian scientists have discovered a key brain protein which defends against Parkinson's disease. The protein, discovered in mice by a team from the Istituto Nazionale di Neuroscienze (National Institute of Neuroscience), prevents the onset of the disease, which in Italy alone affects some 10,000 people each year. Scientists hope that the discovery of the protein, called c-Rel, will lead to the successful development of future therapies.
