Kuwait will make its first appearance in a World Health Organization (WHO) Executive Board session this month, the country's Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva Ambassador Jamal Al-Ghoneim has said.
Al-Ghoneim told KUNA on Friday that Kuwait is taking part in the Board's 136th session in Geneva, 26 January-3 February 2015, after it was granted membership thanks to contributions to the WHO.
Minister of Health Dr. Ali Saad Al-Obaidi will lead a Kuwaiti high ranking delegation to the Geneva session.
Al-Ghoneim noted that the event will comprise an extraordinary session on response to the outbreak of Ebola virus in West Africa, in addition to reviewing the agenda of the WHO annual conference due in May, and the resolutions to be referred to it.
Board Members will also discuss priority issues in the areas of communicable and non-communicable diseases, promoting health through life course, preparedness, surveillance and response, and WHO reform, together with other issues.
The WHO Executive Board is composed of 34 members technically qualified in the field of health. Members are elected for three-year terms.
