
Kuwait will take part in the 61st session of the World Health Organization's (WHO) Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean slated for October 19-22 in Tunis.
Kuwait's delegation, headed by Minister of Health Dr. Ali Al-Obaidi, includes senior officials.
In a press statement, Kuwait's Ministry of Health said that the Regional Committee's members would review the annual report of the WHO Regional Director Dr. Ala Alwan, which highlights the work of the Regional Office and Member States. The gathering will discuss several topics and challenges that healthy systems face in the Eastern Mediterranean region, including progress made by the region's states to get the development objectives related to health, the statement added.
The meeting will review the future vision of regional strategic development objectives and combating AIDS as well as implementing international health regulations, precautionary measures in emergency and healthy safety in the Region, it noted.
The WHO's meeting will share with the participants documents highlighting the achievements and challenges in regard to: polio eradication, tobacco control, health-related Millennium Development Goals and health targets after 2015.
In addition, it focuses on regional strategy for health sector response to HIV 2011-2015, saving the lives of mothers and children, and shaping the future of health in the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region.
Some calibers, who were granted WHO's awards, are expected to be honored in the meeting.
Kuwait's delegation will make a presentation on the Ministry of Health accomplishments view of the future health visions of the Eastern Mediterranean Region.
The meeting will address a range of important health issues representing priorities for the countries of the region.
At least 200 people will participate in the ministerial event, including ministers of health; representatives of national, regional and international organizations, and experts from WHO headquarters and the Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean.
