Medical volunteer campaign seeks to boost voluntary work in Kuwait

A newly launched medical volunteer campaign is intended to increase levels of participation in voluntary work in Kuwait, explained MP Dr. Maasouma Al-Mubarak on Sunday. The campaign, 'Mos'if Al-Fereej', meaning 'neighborhood medical volunteer', is the fruit of efforts by Kuwaiti volunteers working to improve Kuwait's image in the voluntary and humanitarian realms, explained Dr Al-Mubarak, addressing the campaign's first graduating class. The campaign was initially launched out of a desire to reverse negative foreign perceptions of Kuwaiti people, which are based on a theory that they are dependent and unable to help themselves, she explained. Dr. Al-Mubarak added that the movement demonstrates Kuwaitis' concerted effort to translate the campaign slogan 'We want a medical volunteer from every Kuwaiti house' into a reality. She also thanked the Ministry of Interior and the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) for their continuous support for t he campaign. Another speaker at the event on Sunday, KRCS representative Musa'ed Al-Enezi, highly commended the campaign as a "major national project," explaining that it aims to train a majority of Kuwaitis in medical work. Al-Enezi added that the success of the activity demonstrates that young Kuwaitis are ready to do anything to serve their nation and society.
