New opposition coalition proposes welfare bills in Seoul

South Korea's new opposition coalition party proposed a set of welfare bills Thursday in a move underscoring its stated commitment to improve the public's livelihoods. The proposals came a day after the main opposition Democratic Party and the opposition group led by independent lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo merged to form the New Politics Alliance for Democracy (NPAD), creating a larger liberal force to rival the conservative ruling party in the upcoming June 4 local elections.
