Ministry of Health (MOH)'s Chief Nutritionist Dr. Nadia Ghareeb warned against binge eating - i.e. overeating - or excessive intake of meats, rice and confectionaries during Eid al-Fitr.
She cautioned from excessive consumption of variety food and desserts, as the increase in food consumption may lead to health complications such as stomach problems.
She told Bahrain News Agency (BNA) that festive Eid-associated cuisines include high fat, high calorie foods which pose a threat to the health of individuals, especially those already chronically ill.
She said that towards the end of the holy month of Ramadan, people have already become accustomed to a different timing of their meals, so any sudden change(s) in these timings or the kind of food may cause intestinal disorders such as bulimia, stomachache and food poisoning in some cases.
