More than 330 victims of bacterial poisoning in east China's Jiangxi Province had recovered by Saturday, with only five still being treated.
The information office of Lianhua County told Xinhua that test showed the victims, mostly children had contracted a bacterial infection from food or water.
"Luckily, those who are still being treated are not getting worse and far fewer cases were reported in the last two days," said an official with the office.
Hospitals in Lianhua received 336 patients, aged from 3 to 18 years old from Sunday to Friday, suffering from diarrhea, nausea, stomach pains and fever.
Experts are investigating the origin of the problem, and the county has been examining food, and water resources since Thursday.
Medical staff have disinfected the school dining halls, restaurants, hospitals and open-air markets.
Schools have distributed more than 10,000 handouts on preventing bacterial infection to students and parents.
