A patient who was infected recently with the corona virus has died at one of the hospitals in Qasim, a newspaper reported quoting a statement by the Ministry of Health. A sample was taken from the patient and analyzed at a specialized lab and the results showed he was infected with corona virus, also dubbed the new corona virus. The ministry has taken all necessary precautions in accordance with local and international scientific guidelines related to taking samples from those who were close to the patient to verify if any of them has been infected with the virus, the ministry said. This was the 14th corona virus case internationally and the 7th locally, according to the ministry’s statement. The ministry’s announcement comes in the context of a recently launched transparency campaign being adopted by the ministry in dealing with the media on the latest health data related to infections and epidemic diseases, which may raise concern among community members. The ministry also informs the World Health Organization on any new health developments according to the international health rules (2005) to which the Kingdom is a signatory. The national scientific committee for infectious diseases (NSCID), whose members are drawn from all government health sectors, affirmed that the corona virus is a virus that infects the respiratory system and can be transmitted from one person to another in rare and limited cases. However, it is not hazardous to public health, the ministry said. From Arab News
