QScience.com and Qatar Medical Journal editors-in-chief are delighted to announce that Qatar Medical Journal (QMJ) is now indexed in PubMed Central (PMC), the world’s largest and most-used biomedical literature database. PubMed Central is a freely-available database of full-text articles on life sciences and biomedical topics. Citations and abstracts of all QMJ articles will additionally be retrievable in PubMed through keyword and author searches.
Journals accepted to PMC undergo a rigorous review process by the Literature Selection Technical Review Committee, which is a National Institute of Health chartered committee. The primary consideration in selecting journals for indexing is scientific merit, which includes such factors as validity, importance, originality and contribution to the field. Journals must also demonstrate a high level of quality, credibility, and objectivity related to their peer review process and ethical guidelines.
Arend Kuster, Managing Director at QScience.com, said, "Depositing Qatar Medical Journal content in PubMed Central will make it more discoverable to researchers, health professionals, and the general public. This acceptance reflects our on-going publishing commitment to high quality, reputable manuscripts." "Having QScience.com journals included on PMC can now act as a beacon to help attract some of the very best researchers to Qatar," he added.
Launched in December 2010, QScience.com is a peer-reviewed online publishing platform from Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Journals that offers a unique and collaborative research environment for scientists in Qatar and the rest of the world.
Dr Christopher Leonard, Editorial Director at QScience.com, said, "We are honoured to see the Qatar Medical Journal included among the high-profile journals accepted into PubMed Central. Inclusion in PMC further establishes QMJ as a journal of growing prominence in the field of Medicine, and is a major milestone for this journal." "This is a great achievement reflecting the high standard of QMJ," said Dr Mohammed Hammoudeh, Editor-in-chief of QMJ. "Compared with traditional print journals, QMJ is ahead of its time. It stands out because it is a free, web-based journal accessible to anyone with an internet connection. By being indexed in PubMed Central, QMJ’s online presence will expand and QMJ will reach new heights as a global resource." The Global Cardiology Science and Practice Journal was the first of QScience.com’s journal to be indexed by PMC earlier this year.
