Rich Products Corp. in Buffalo, N.Y., widened its recall of frozen mini meals and snacks that may be tainted with E.coli O121 to a total of 10.5 million pounds. The voluntary recall includes all products made at its Waycross, Ga., plant with "Best By" dates ranging from Jan. 1, 2013, to Sept. 29, 2014. The expanded recall is in addition to products recalled on March 28. Rich Products said it was unaware of any illnesses associated with the partially cooked products included in the expanded recall, but its unwavering safety commitment to its customers caused it to act. "When it became apparent to us that, despite the expertise of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Food and Drug Administration, the scientific community and our own experts, identification of a specific cause was not going to be a simple or short process, we decided to act proactively to expand the recall," Bill Gisel, Rich's president and chief executive officer, said in a statement. The expanded recall includes: 21-oz. bags of Farm Rich mini bacon cheeseburgers. 1-lb. bags of Schwan's mini meatball sandwiches. 18-oz. bags of Farm Rich mini quesadillas. 18-oz. bags of Farm Rich mini quesadillas. 20-oz. bags of Farm Rich mini quesadillas. 21-oz. bags of Farm Rich Philly Cheese Steaks. The products subject to recall were produced from July 1, 2011 to March 29, 2013, and distributed for retail or restaurant sale nationwide. Health officials said consumers should check their freezers for the recalled items and destroy them or return them for a refund.
