Dr. Mohammad Omar Ba-Sulaiman, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Health Care, said that the number of infant deaths as well as the number of mothers dying while giving birth has drastically decreased over the past 22 years. This came during a work paper presented by Ba-Sulaiman in the 4th session of the OIC Health Ministers in Jakarta which is concluded a day before yesterday. He stressed that "in 1990, 44 baby deaths (out of a thousand) were registered; however, only 18.7 death cases were registered in 2012. As for mother deaths, the number shrank from 48 cases out of a hundred thousand in the 90's to a minimum of 14 by last year."
