Spain said Friday it approved two requests by the UN and US to use military bases in the south as part of international operations to fight the Ebola virus in West Africa.

She said the two bases would be used as transit points and centers for logistic support for military airplanes involved in an international campaign against Ebola in West Africa, including a support for the engineers who were building hospitals in Sierre Leone and Liberia.
She also said the Spanish government approved a UN request to use Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Airport on the bay of Gando. The airport will a hub for international humanitarian workers travelling to the Ebola hard-hit West African countries.
