Doctors have cautioned that the stubborn butt-squeezing, thigh-hugging denims could be too hard on our health and can cause nerve damage. Tingling and numbness are symptoms of the condition called 'meralgia paresthetica', which occurs when the nerve that runs down the front of the thigh is squeezed. A 'Greenpoint' clothing store manager, Madeline Virbasius claimed that, these jeans will not be going away any time soon. "As long as they're in fashion, they're probably not going to go away," the New York Daily quoted Virbasius as saying. The 39-year-old Virbasius also compared these skinny jeans to other vices as well. "We all know high heels and cigarettes are bad for us, but we still use them anyway," she said. Dr. Robert Rhee, chief of vascular surgery at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn claimed that the skinny-jeans craze hasn't sparked a nerve-damage epidemic. But he suggests that fashion-forward types will use common sense if they suddenly can't feel their legs. "Switch to a larger size. The numbness is a sign your body is not getting enough blood," Rhee said. However, Rhee insisted that the fashion conscious can relax - even if they're not switching to the relaxed fit. "Clearly the scenery in New York is enhanced by tight jeans as long as you can fit in them," the surgeon said. "Unless you are having significant numbness in your legs or feet, if the pants fit, wear 'em," he said Meanwhile, In the neighborhoods of Brooklyn, devotees said they will soon sport a pair of acid-wash than relegate their skinny jeans to the Goodwill pile. "I think they're more comfortable, to be honest. Though skinny jeans can be pretty snug in all the wrong places," said 20-year-old Andy Jin, a pastry chef from Bushwick. Shadi Mirzai, 30, manager of the Williamsburg clothing store Life 'Curated', revealed that the silhouette has fallen out of favor a bit with men but women still follow the thigh hugging jeans. "I think guys have given them a rest lately," she said. "Skinny jeans feel more comfortable, to be honest," said Kieran Carroll, 25, of Bushwick, who is a fan of skinny jeans. "If the clothes are too tight, some people shouldn't be wearing them. That'd be my guess," she added.
