
At least one protester was killed and 15 others wounded during violent clashes in Sanaa, Yemen on Sunday. Angry protesters affiliated with Al Houthi, a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen, marched to the national security headquarters demanding the release of a prisoner belonging to the organisation. Violence broke out between the demonstrators and the buildings guards after some attempted to break into the offices. Witnesses reported that the guards fired bullets into the crowd, which killed one protester an injured a further 15. Spokesman of Al-Houthi group, Ali Bakhtan called the incident an attempted “massacre.” He said that the national security soldiers opened fire on peaceful demonstrators after receiving orders from Yemeni president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.
