Abbas meets Meshaal in Cairo

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met with the head of Hamas’ political office Khaled Meshaal in Cairo. A number of Egyptian officials attended the meeting, including General Raffat Shehata, Head of Egypt’s Intelligence Authority. The meeting was held to discuss ongoing efforts towards achieving the Palestinian reconciliation. Sources told Arabstoday that the Palestinian president proposed a plan of action to Meshaal, concerning the main issues upon which they would agree to negotiate over the coming weeks. The Palestinian president also received Director General of the Democratic Front Naief Hawatma and Member of the Executive Committee of the Palestinian Liberation Organization Tayseer Khaled. They discussed the recent developments witnessed on the Palestinian scene. A number of Palestinian officials, including Azam el-Ahmed, member of Fatah’s Central Committee, Nabil abu-Radina, Spokesperson of the Palestinian Presidency, and Palestine’s Ambassador to Cairo, Nabil el-Fara, attended the meeting.
