Up t 26 Syrians died and many others were wounded in air strikes carried out by the Syrian Government Air Force, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
Most of the dead were reported in the town of Salkin in Idlib, northwestern Syria. Among the dead were four children and one woman, said the Observatory in a statement on Monday.
The Syrian regime military aircraft have been dropping explosives-laden barrels on suspected targets of the opposition. These locally-improvised bombs inflict wide-scale destruction.
The Observatory, which relies on contacts on the ground in Syria, reported fierce fighting pitting gunmen of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) against Al-Nusra Islamists in the border town of Al-Boukamal.
In the north, gunship helicopters of the regime dropped barrel bombs on many sectors of the city.
