The Independent Palestinian Figures leadership welcomed the Abbas’ speech to the United Nations. The leadership underlined the importance of the UN bid, which has put the Palestinian right of freedom and self-determination back on the international political agenda. The head of the group, Yasser Al Wadia said that Abbas must visit the Gaza Strip to promote reconciliation and take a first step to overcome political disunity. He stressed that the unity is crucial to establishing the Palestinian state, as the Palestinians will need strength to stand and face Israeli threats.
