An official from Morocco’s Authenticity and Modernity Party has claimed that Foad Ali Al-Hema, the party’s founder, may not contest the parliamentary elections scheduled for November. The news came as a shock to Ali Al-Hema’s supporters. The source told Arabstoday: “We don’t know why Ali Al-Hema has decided not to compete. He was friends with King Mohammed at university.” “We have tried to call Ali Al-Hema many times over the past few days, but we haven’t been able to get hold of him.” Ali Al-Hema has been heavily criticised by Morocco’s February 20 movement, who urged him to leave Moroccan politics. Ali Al-Hema’s party has considerable support in his neighborhood, Al-Rahamena, in northern Marrakech, where they won all three parliamentary seats.
