Lebanon’s Progressive Socialist Party (PSP) chief Walid Jumblatt has condemned “thoughtless and impulsive” remarks made by Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) leader General Michel Aoun, after the Hezbollah-allied Christian politician condemned the international community’s silence over protests in Bahrain. Aoun, addressing an Iranian TV station last week, criticised the international community and the Arab League for its lack of support for Bahraini protesters, calling their predicament an “injustice.” PSP leader Jumblatt said: “Putting a stop to these pointless heroics would probably reduce the risk of endangering Lebanese communities in other Arab countries.” Jumblatt acknowledged Bahrain was "going through a difficult period," celebrating the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI) for its work to “safeguard the political rights of different sections in Bahraini society.”
