Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun has said that he escaped a fourth assassination attempt on Saturday after his motorcade came under fire in the southern city of Sidon. During an address at an FPM dinner in Batroun after midnight Saturday, Aoun said he had previously escaped three murder attempts. “This is the fourth and the attempt failed today but we haven't found the suspects yet,” he said. “Why do they want to assassinate me? I haven't killed anyone indiscriminately,” Aoun said. The failure to kill him “politically and morally” was the reason behind the incident, he added. The convoy was attacked near Bahaaeddine Hariri mosque in Sidon during his return from a rally in Jezzine, his press office said. An Nahar quoted FPM media sources as saying that a shot was fired at a four-wheeler in the convoy, causing no casualties. But security sources denied that any such incident took place in the area. The involved authorities have asked to examine the motorcade's vehicles but FPM officials rejected, they said. Immediately after news broke out of the incident, Hizbullah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah telephoned Aoun to inquire about his health.
