
Head of the Iraqi Parliament's Security and Defense Committee Hakem al-Zameli deplored on Saturday the assassination of prominent Iraqi Sunni tribal leader Sheikh Qassem al-Janabi and his son, Mohammad.
Speaking to MENA, al-Zameli described the killing as a crime that targets fanning discord in Iraq.
Earlier on Friday, Qassem al-Janabi and his son along with at least six other guards were killed in an attack on their convoy in southern Baghdad.
Parliament member Zayed al-Janabi who is nephew of deceased tribal sheikh, was kidnapped in the attack.
The perpetrators are part of a group that actively seeks depriving Iraqis from victories achieves in battle against Daesh terrorists.
Asked about lands under Daesh terrorists' control, the lawmaker said that the committee will provide a report on investigations launched by security officials in Mosul.
