Jordanian MP Shadi Adwan threatened fellow MP Ziad Shawabka with a handgun during a heated House of Representatives session on Wednesday morning. Other politicians tried to prevent the dispute from escalating. MP Nidal Hayari was injured and hospitalised after another parliamentarian, Khaled Hayari, hit him with an ashtray. The two men belong to the same tribe. The session was terminated following the violence. Heated discussions focused on the contentious issue of raising fuel prices, which Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour is currently pushing for in the House. On Wednesday, Ensour argued that a halted price hike from February 2011 had cost Jordan millions.
