The Delhi government Sunday ordered a probe after a prominent eatery refused to serve food to a group of street children belonging to poor families.
Delhi's Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia described the incident as "inhuman" and said that the restaurant in central Delhi would not be allowed to operate if allegations turned out to be true after the magisterial probe ordered by him.
"This is typical colonial mindset. This cannot be tolerated. This is inhuman. Our constitution speaks of equality. I guess, the license will also be cancelled," the Deputy Chief Minister said after local TV channels beamed the report.
In fact, the street children were taken to the restaurant by a woman who wanted to celebrate her husband's birthday in a unique way. "There is no difference between the rich and the poor. But if you are poor, you are not allowed to sit and eat," she said.
However, the eatery has defended its decision, saying that the children were creating trouble and disturbing other customers
