Egypt’s Court of Appeal has approved a request for release by former dictator Hosni Mubarak, ahead of a trial regarding financial corruption. The former leader filed a release request before a fresh profiteering trial, although he will remain in custody pending another trial. A judicial source confirmed to Arabstoday that Mubarak will not leave Tora prison, but stated his right to appeal. The appeal review session was heard inside Tora Prison in southern Cairo, where Mubarak is currently being held. Prosecutor General , Abdallah Talaat, has announced he will appeal the verdict. The illegal profiting department chaired by Yahya Jalal, confirmed it will also appeal the decision to release Mubarak, and that preparations are being made to begin legal actions shortly. The appeal review session was heard inside Tora Prison in southern Cairo, where Mubarak is currently being held. Chairman of the Liberties Committee, Muhammad Damati, accused the prosecutor general of being "complicit" with Mubarak as not enough efforts were exerted to challenge the release order. “The decision to release the ousted president threatens to abolish the rights of the martyrs and the rights of the revolution," Damati said. Last June, Mubarak received a life sentence on charges of murder and attempted murder after hundreds of demonstrators died during Egypt’s January 25 Revolution, but in January he was granted a retrial allegedly due to procedural irregularities in the initial trial.
