Two Egyptian army helicopters showered crowds gathered in Tahrir Square on Friday with thank you cards, for answering their call to pro-military demonstrations. The cards, in the colours of the Egyptian flag, carried a thank you message from Defence Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. Loyalist responded to the gesture by chanting: "The army and people are united."? Thousands of protesters gathered in Cairo's Tahrir Square after al-Sisi called for a show of solidarity with the interim government. In a speech on Wednesday, the armed forces chief said that the nationwide rally would give the army a mandate to fight "violence and terrorism," which has engulfed Egypt following the ouster of former president Mohammed Morsi.
