Egyptian Sharia militants’ hit list revealed

Egyptian Sharia militants have been accused of targeting media and political personalities, according to a lawsuit filed by the head of the Federation of Human Rights. Naguib Gabriel claims that members of the Sharia Battalion, a group that supports Islamic law, have set up a black list of personalities to intimidate, threaten and in some cases to assassinate. Judges, political journalists, activists, and even the Coptic Pope, Tawadros II are on the list, according to Gabriel. Other activists, like himself, are also the target of the Islamist group, claimed the leader of the Federation of Human Rights. Gabriel also accused the militants of creating unrest and terrorism. In a statement to the press on Tuesday, the human rights activist assured that the Ministry of Interior was monitoring the group’s actions. It is only a matter of time before the Prosecutor General issues an arrest warrant against the Sharia Battalion leaders, Gabriel said.
