EU official meets Arab League chief in Cairo

The European Union's Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton has held talks with Secretary-General of the Arab League Nabil al-Arabi in Cairo. Sources told Arab Today that the two officials discussed developments in the Middle East, including Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi's decision to sever ties with Syria. During the meeting, Baroness Ashton urged the Arab League chief to push for a peaceful solution to the Syrian conflict. They also discussed the possibility of implementing the Egyptian initiative to resolve the crisis.
