The Fatah supreme leadership committee has confirmed the movement’s desire to maintain the reconciliation atmosphere with rivals Hamas. The dismissed government in Gaza has refused to allow Fatah to hold its anniversary festival at the al-Katiba Arena in eastern Gaza City. Speaking to journalist after a committee meeting, committee chief Yahia Rabbah said the members had discussed relations with Hamas after the Islamist movement prevented Fatah from holding their celebration in the Gaza City arena. The members, Rabbah said, agreed that the festival must be held at any cost, with the location being a secondary concern. He added that Fatah had alternative venues, but refused to declare what these were. “We do not want to send any negative messages,” Rabbah said, adding that the movement has decided to maintain the reconciliation atmosphere. The Fatah official added that communications with Hamas were “ongoing” and his movement have “expanded the circle of contact” to expat leaders as well as the West Bank. He said the movement will announce the date and venue where the anniversary will be held soon.
