France joined a list of countries condemning the central Khartoum government for attacks targeting areas of South Sudan. Paris has called for an independent investigation to find those responsible for the attacks on the new state which was internationally recognised this year. The foreign ministry in Khartoum accused France, the US and members of the United Nations Security Council for ignoring the complaints presented by Sudan against neighbouring South Sudan, whom Khartoum has blamed for inciting rebellion against its government in Sudan's Kordofan province and the Blue Nile. Sudanese foreign ministry spokesperson Ahmed Marrouh said in a statement: "I wonder why France have ignored our complaints while they showed a lot of interest in our neighbour's complaints." Dr. Rabea Abdul Al-Aati, professor of international relations in Khartoum University, accused the West of encouraging anti-Sudanese activities and said to 'Arabstoday' that he did not expect them to stop at this stage. "I expect a call for a no-fly zone to soon be implemented," he said.
