The Jordanian House of Representatives has demanded an investigation into the demonstrations held in Nikhil Square last Friday, in order to hold accountable all those involved in the events. In a statement issued on Sunday, the House of Representatives confirmed its solidarity with the demonstrators’ demands for freedom, and freedom of expression, emphasizing that it would stand by the media in order to enable them to perform their role, with the aim of being professional and impartial. The House of Representatives has also stressed that it do not accept what happened during the assault on the journalists who were doing their job covering the events of the protest, adding that it could appreciate the demands of the people calling for reform in all areas, and for the fight against corruption and the corrupt. The House of Representatives called for the need to maintain the security and stability of the country, Jordan's clean-cut image. It also demanded that demonstrators should conduct their marches in a civilized manner, underlining the respect of the parties for the citizens, media, and security forces, confirming its adherence to the rule of law in all cases, and indicating that the absence of state institutions means the absence of the state itself, and consequently the absence of any threat to the interests of the homeland and the citizen. The House of Representatives underlined the need for anyone who violates the law to be made accountable for their actions. The statement given concluded: "We as representatives of this good people stress that we are on the same path to maintaining a state of institutions, law and sovereignty, to succeed for the homeland, and to protect the achievements and gains made from any attempts to undermine the security and stability of the country, wherever they may arise, and whichever part of the political spectrum they may represent.” 70 deputies signed a parliamentary memorandum calling for members of the general security forces, and those undertaking dangerous work, to be granted salaries similar to the gendarmerie. The memorandum indicated that this allowance should be granted to them on account of their great efforts, and the fact that they risk their lives to protect the homeland, the citizens, and public property.
