Security officials at a Jordanian camp for Syrian refugees have announced that they will compile a database of refugee names and numbers, so that humanitarian aid inside the country can be better executed. Officials at the Zaatari refugee camp for Syrians in the northern city of Mafraq have confirmed that they will be the first to trial the new system proposed by Jordan’s Chief of Syrian refugees, Inamr al-Hamoud. Al-Hamoud said on Saturday that the Jordanian government is set to build a checkpoint and a sand barrier which will encircle the camp, in a bid to prevent the smuggling of Syrian refugees abroad. The chief also said that a new 30,000-refugee capacity camp, funded by the United Arab Emirates, is set to open in the eastern city of Zarqa on April 1. Additionally, another camp in the west of the city will also open before the end of the year, he said. Remarking the recent reports of problems at the Zaatari camp, al-Hamoud said "no cases of immoral behaviour have been recorded," adding that Islam prohibits making such accusations against women.
