Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Nasser Judeh and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on Thursday discussed the latest developments in the Middle East, including in Syria, and efforts being exerted to find a political solution to the crisis.
They reiterated their countries' keen interest in pressing ahead with coordination and consultations on issues of mutual interest, Jordan's state news agency Petra reported.
Judeh reiterated Jordan's firm stance for finding a political solution that guarantees the security, stability and territorial integrity of Syria with the participation of all segments of Syrian society.
The two top diplomats also discussed efforts to breathe life into the Middle East peace process, the latest of which was the French initiative and an international conference held in Paris to revive peace efforts.
Judeh underlined the importance of relaunching serious and effective talks within a set timeframe. Such talks, he added, must lead to a two-state solution and the establishment of a viable and independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The meeting touched upon the international efforts to fight terrorism and extremism which pose a threat to the global security and stability. Judeh affirmed that Jordan has always been and will always remain at the forefront of international efforts to fight the phenomenon.
The ministers also discussed cooperation on building a nuclear power plant in Jordan.
