Libya asks Egypt for Gaddafi associates

Libya's general prosecutor Abdel Aziz Al-Hassadi has called on his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Meguid Mahmoud to hand over those accused of helping former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in his crackdown on the country's pro-reform uprising. Al-Hassadi said the 40 men, believed to be in Egypt, face allegations of corruption and complicity in the killings during the 2011 uprising. Among those wanted are Gaddafi's cousin, Ahmed Gaddaf Al-Dam, former Foreign Minister Ali Al-Treki, military intelligence chief Bouzeid Al-Jabou and Ali Al-Kelani, who was said to be responsible for torture used on detainees.  Al-Hassadi denied that any of them was wanted for political charges. Libya’s ruling National Transitional Council (NTC) had in October demanded Cairo capture the Gaddafi-loyalists. Al-Hassadi said he was waiting for an Egyptian response. The issue was raised again during a visit by the head of Egypt’s ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, to Libya in January.
