"There are hidden hands trying to abort this revolution, damage its fruits, tarnish its image and drive people to losing faith and regretting it," Dr Mohammed Badie, the General Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt said in his weekly address. The Muslim Brotherhood leader referred to "conspiracies being plotted" against Egypt and other "Arab Spring" states that are trying to "rebuild their countries and pursue corruption." Badie cited "those who bank on a return to the time of corruption" and "foreign enemies who hate our dignity and strength" who are threatened by the "blessed revolution" because it cost them their "strategic treasure:" a phrase used by former President Hosni Mubarak's opponents to indicate his loyalty to Israeli interests. The General Guide also wonders "who is behind" the "deliberate campaign of insults towards the Egyptian army." Badie "the attempts to bring down and firebomb state institutions, block roads, halting work, firing live ammunition and buckshot at the public and practicing all manner of abominations such as drinking alcohol, using drugs and harassing and raping women" and compared this condition with the "nobility" of the Egyptian revolution which he said was peaceful and "pure." "We should make a very clear distinction between the pure revolutionary youths who long for reform and may want to see its effects and results too soon, and plants who are used to sabotage the elected, legitimate regime." The Muslim Brotherhood leader also highlighted the need for "sincere dialogue" and placing national interests ahead of other considerations in order to "achieve the renaissance."
