A precision strike in eastern Afghanistan killed a Haqqani leader believed responsible for numerous attacks on government and NATO forces, officials say. The International Assistance Security Force, in a statement, identified the leader as Ghairat and said he was killed Friday in Logar province, Khaama Press reported. Officials said he was suspected of preparing for a strike on NATO and Afghan troops using an improvised explosive device. The action caused no civilian injuries or property damage, the statement said. "The security force positively identified Ghairat and another militant engaging in insurgent activity in an isolated area and conducted a precision airstrike, killing both Ghairat and the insurgent," a source told Khaama. Two Afghan police officers were killed and two injured early Saturday by a roadside bomb in Herat province, officials said. The device went off when a police vehicle struck it. No one had claimed responsibility for the attack late Saturday. Afghan security forces killed 20 militants and captured 21 in operations across the country, officials said Saturday.
