NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Wednesday praised Georgia for its contributions to NATO-led operations and its aspiration to join the Alliance.
Welcoming Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili to the NATO headquarters, Stoltenberg highlighted that Georgia is the third-largest contributor to NATO's Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan.
"Over the past two years, we have put in place a substantial NATO-Georgia package of support to strengthen Georgia's defense capabilities and implementation is well on track," he said.
"At the Warsaw Summit next month, we will further strengthen our package of support for Georgia," added Stoltenberg.
He welcomed Georgia's continuing reform efforts and highlighted that NATO will continue to support Georgia in moving closer to the Alliance.
NATO member states' leaders agreed at the 2008 Bucharest Summit that Georgia will become a NATO member, provided it meets all necessary requirements.
At the Wales Summit in 2014, a substantial package of measures was launched to strengthen Georgia's ability to defend itself and advance its preparations for membership
