Salva Kiir reveals meeting with Bashir

South Sudanese President Salva Kiir has revealed a that a meeting with Sudanese counterpart Omar Al-Bashir was possible after the Eid Al-Fitr holiday in Addis Ababa to find a solution to long standing issues between the two countries. President Kiir said the new talks came within efforts to "turn over the page of disagreements with Sudan forever" and called on South Sudan's people to "hold on to peaceful coexistence, unity and devote their efforts to building their newborn state". At the annual Iftaar (fast-breaking meal during the holy Islamic month of Ramadan) gathering, Salva Kiir said that his government was keen on freedom of religion and that the constitution guaranteed freedom for everyone, away from religious and racial discrimination. At the same time, he denied accusations that his government was discriminating against Muslims in the south. "Firm orders were given to not  harass anybody in South Sudan, including our brothers from Sudan," he said. In Khartoum, a spokesman for the Sudanese foreign ministry, Obaid Murawah said that President Bashir's government would continue talks with Juba out of a desire to reach solutions to outstanding issues. Merwah told Arabstoday that the anticipated talks following Eid will be important based on the results achieved in the previous round of talks and the oil agreement reached. Meanwhile, the head of the opposition Democratic Front of South Sudan party, David Deshan, describes the South Sudanese government as a "failure" and accused it of creating "political, security and economic problems in the south". In a statement to Arabstoday, he said that the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) , the ruling party in South Sudan, was linked to foreign agendas and that they were "only concerned with carrying out US and Israeli goals in Africa and South Sudan". Deshan described "another kind of colonisation" while referring to the US administration’s organisation of secret camps in Zair on the south border, in Inzara on the borders with Uganda, and in Ubu in central Africa. He said the camps were held to achieve several goals including expelling the Gaish Al-Rab led by Joseph Kony, one of the fiercest opposition rebel leaders to Ugandan President Uri Mosivini, a strong US ally in the region. "People won’t forget, the SPLM nurtured and trained Joseph Kony in the late 1980s and gave him all kinds of support and training at the Belfam camp. Following independence last year, the SPLM are devoted to escalating disagreements with Sudanese government, and their leader lies to everyone. Salva Kiir for instance denied to US President Barack Obama that Juba was providing assistance to Sudanese rebels in the Blue Nile and South Kordofan," he said. Deshan added that “South Sudan's citizen pays a high price for the government’s mistakes as many regions there face starvation and a food crisis. It is hard for citizens to get their basic needs of health services and education, and can’t get basic products because of the high prices". He also expressed regret over the government’s "going too far with deluding the public and presenting its failure to run the country as resulting from a blockade imposed by Sudan by preventing merchandise from entering the south through the borders". Deshan also said Kiir’s calls for his opponents to hold dialoguesand devote efforts to rebuilding the newborn country were insincere, "because opposition leaders who responded to these calls ended up killed as General Kalwak Kai or Commander George Atoor or in prison like General Kerial Tang". "My party will not enter into negotiations with Salva Kiir’s government and that the opposition and armed forces will have to topple it or force it to change its current way of dealing with opponents," he said. He added: “We refused many mediators  because the African countries who proposed them were involved in delivering opposition members in South Sudan towards imprisonment, torture or killing. We have no time to waste in dialogue with these people.” The opposition leader also stated that conditions were improving for opposition parties in South Sudan. Deshan said the SPLM was divided into groups, the first led by Salva kiir comprising the inhabitants of the Warrap region and other states. The second camp was led by the president’s deputy Riek Machar and supported by people of the Upper Nile states. The third camp is led by Nial Dinaq, known as the John Garang children, after the deceased founder of the movement. Deshan expected the latter camp to unite with Salva Kiir due to the lack of arms and power. Concerning the dialogue between Khartoum and Juba, David said though it was required, it was not likely that it would reach a conclusion due to Juba;s "refuses to demarcate borders". “Until now, there are no known borders between the two countries,” he said. Deshan refused to comment on accusations that he received funds from Khartoum, where he currently resides. But he went back to say that “if we received funds, our situation would have been much better on the ground”. He denied the proposition that the Sudanese government was involved in funding the South Sudanese opposition and accused powerful figures in Juba of ebing "elitists and excluding other tribes from power". "Corruption has become rampant among South Sudanese leaders...look at Salva kiir’s recurrent calls for those who stole the country's funds to return them to the government’s treasury," said Deshan.
