An Egyptian security source told Arabstoday that the Egyptian authorities have not conducted any investigations in to United Arab Emirates citizens. It was reported that there were suspicions within Egypt of Emirati people financing and supporting the current chaos in Egypt in an attempt to pave the way for a new power. The source claimed that there have been no official reports in this regard. This contradicted a report published in the Egyptian daily newspaper of Akhbar, which suggested that Emirati sources had been sabotaging Egypt by providing financial incentives for chaos. The Deputy Head of Egypt’s State Council Mahmoud el-Attar stressed the need for providing evidence of such accusations via formal documents revealing the names of those involved, so that appropriate action could be taken. Furthermore, an Egyptian judiciary official demanded that the names of weapons smugglers should also be published, adding that no one has the right to accuse anyone else without submitting the necessary evidence.
