The Syrian National Coalition is meeting in Istanbul, Turkey, to pick a replacement for its current president, Ahmad Al-Jarba, and to elect three vice presidents, a secretary general and a political committee, the group said in a statement Monday.
The statement said that the Syrian opposition kicked off its meetings late Sunday. A detailed reports on past elections and amendments on the coalition's legal and financial systems will be tacked during the meetings.
The coalition will also be "discussing the military changes in Syria and the region in general, and its impact on the course of revolution," the statement pointed out.
In addition, it will deliberate over a decision made by the Syrian interim government leader Ahmed Tuma to sack head of the military council; a decision that is out of Tuma's jurisdictions. The coalition is the only authority that could make such choices.
The group will also shed light on a request submitted by women who will strive to push for a vote to institute a quota to ensure they make up 30 percent of the coalition members.
