The UK economy has emerged from the worse double-dip recession since the 1950s over the last three months from July to September, with the help of the Olympic Games in London. The economy returned to growth at its fastest pace in five years, the office for National Statistics (ONS) said today. It grew by 1.0%, according to official gross domestic product figures (GDP), which measure the value of everything produced in the country. The Office for National Statistics said Olympic ticket sales had added 0.2 percent to the figures. The figures are welcome news for business and ministers, said the BBC's economics editor Stephanie Flanders. This means the UK has emerged from a double-dip recession in the third quarter of the year.
