The commander of the forces of the joint mission of the United Nations and African Union working in Darfur (UNAMID) General Patrick Nyamvumba confirmed the commitment of the peacekeeping mission in Darfur, according to powers derived from Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations reaffirming. Nyamvumba added, according to a press release from the headquarters of UNAMID in El Fasher that attacks carried out on his forces will not deter them from carrying out their role to protect civilians in Darfur, presenting the procedures and measures taken by the mission that led to the release of the Yemeni police consultant and two Sudanese translators without any conditions. He also urged the mission forces to continue performing their tasks. General Nyamvumba, on behalf of the UNAMID, saluted the mission troops who were released after being subjected to abduction by the forces of the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) on February 19 while were on patrol in the area of Shagied Karo, 60 km away of their location in Umbro in the state of North Darfur.
